Editing of films

Editing

Editing plays a big part in horror genre films as it can create more suspense and tension. By having slow pace takes between editing that gradually increase to a faster pace of editing it can really build up the terror of a scene.

Here in the film Insidious, at around 24:30 the editing pace starts to speed up a lot at the father is trying to get the chains of his sons leg, and then the villain pops up behind him, then the editing is still at a fast pace whilst they are trying to run away. This creates tension ans suspense as it makes the audience panic a little as they are wanting the characters to get away from the villain. As they get further away from the villain the editing pace slows down again, this shows the audience that the danger has died down a little for the time being.
