Editing

 Editing

A variation between slow and fast rhythm editing can be varied in horror movies to forebode in scenes when something is going to happen, like a death.

This clip is from 'An American Werewolf in London' and it is the first appearance of the wolf.

In order to build up tension for the audience the editing is slow at first and gradually speeds up in order to represent that it is getting closer until the werewolf finally attacks and the cutting between shots is very fast in order to create fear.
